New Star Chinese Takeaways

So I recently landed myself a sweet full-time job doing social science research for a local NGO. Subsequently my time available to write reviews of vege burgers has started to quickly disappear. But I recently went back across the road to the New Star Chinese Takeaways on the corner of Clyde Street and Peachgrove Road. I’ve had this burger before and wasn’t terribly impressed, but figured I best return to do a review for the blog.

I live ridiculously close so I phoned this order in so I could keep playing Jak III on ps2. They said it would be ready in 10 minutes so I set the alarm on my phone for 7 minutes then headed off across the road. They were ready by the time I got there and upon my return my flatmates were up to a weird pacman-like level on Jak III. I didn’t attempt the level, it looked awful.

This burger was extremely hot.  It was pretty greasy too, I actually had to keep wiping my hands to take the photos.

It weighed 280 grams and cost $3.50, making it more expensive than the vege burger from Hsin Hsin Takeaways which is less than 100m away.

It was quite cheesy and eggy. It had the usual, tomato, tomato sauce, lettuce, onion, the odd pineapple chunk, egg and a lot of cheese.

Now, I was REALLY hungry when I got this burger so I got some chips with it too. And golly, these chips were weird. They had a really strange aftertaste. One flatmate who is a self-proclaimed ‘fan of weird chips’ had a cold at the time and couldn’t taste properly so couldn’t tell if the chips were really good or really terrible.  On the topic of the chips however, the newspaper the chips were wrapped in was Chinese, but what grabbed the attention of our flat was an advertisement for breast enlargements featuring before and after photos of breasts with little stars covering the nipples. Definitely noteworthy right?

Hrmmm, where to rate this burger… Well, despite knowing somewhat what I was expecting having had thus burger before, it was completely what I expected. This IS the generic fish and chip shop vege burger. No big pros and no big cons. And though in my opinion this is the average burger, the greasiness drops the final score down a tad from 5 out of 10, to 4 out of 10.
